newborn wrapping poses | ct newborn photography

There are so many different poses with newborn photography. I thought it would be fun to do a blog post featuring one of them. Newborn wrapping poses are one of my favorites. There are so many different techniques to newborn wrapping.  I love experiment with new wrapping techniques during all of my sessions. It is always my go to with an awake baby. Wrapping makes them feel warm and secure. Sometimes I am lucky enough to get eye contact. Other times it puts the baby right out. Baby doesn’t need to be awake to be wrapped. I use wrapps on sleepy babies too! Sometimes only partially wrapping them, and other times doing a full wrap. When wrapping sleepy newborns I’m able to play around more with different techniques.

Newborn Wrapping Poses: Sleeping Babies

Sleeping babies in wraps. They are snug as a bug in a rug. The possibilities are endless. Twist wrapping, tie wrapping, egg wrapping.. I’m not sure if those are even the “correct” names. Sometimes I’ll have an idea and try something new. Sleeping newborns are the best to play with!

Newborn Wrapping Poses: Awake Newborns

The sweet eye contact of a newborn baby. I find it one of the most difficult shots to achieve. Many newborns have what I call the “Popeye” look. They have one eye open and one eye closed. Much of the time they are awake the first few weeks it’s because they are hungry, tired, or need to be changed. That usually equals them not being too happy! That is why when I get a happy awake newborn who makes eye contact with BOTH eyes, I get super excited!

Newborn Wrapping Poses: Props

Another way to use wraps is with a prop. I love to use baskets or crates. The possibilities are endless.
